Seaport Exhibit Building Recognized as a Best Wood Project

As the Thompson Exhibit Building Project unfolded at Mystic Seaport Museum’s historic shipyard, it quickly became obvious that the unique design would be iconic. Now, ArchDaily (“the world’s most visited architecture website”) has recognized the building as one of the 100 Best Wood Architecture Projects in the US.

A/Z had the honor of serving as Mystic Seaport Museum’s Construction Manager for this project, overseeing the planning and construction of this new 21,000-square foot facility designed by Centerbrook Architects & Planners. The eye-catching Thompson Exhibit Building structure is formed of laminated Douglas fir beams, which curve dramatically and emulate the shape of a wave or a ship’s hull.

The Thompson Exhibit Building features a 5,000-square foot exhibit space, an event / meeting area, a retail shop, and a wrap-around patio. The project also included the re-development of the surrounding landscaped quadrangle area.
