McInnis’ Port of Providence Cement Terminal
The Port of Providence is one of the primary gateways to deep-water marine commerce in the State of Rhode Island, receiving ships carrying consumer goods and raw materials from around the world every day. North American cement manufacturing industry leader McInnis is in the process of developing a receiving and distribution terminal at this port. The new facility is expected to receive ships with cement payloads of over 30,000 metric tons from its Quebec manufacturing plant, and it will have the capacity to load about 100 trucks and around 10 railcars per day with cement.
McInnis and its construction manager, Borton, have engaged A/Z to support the installation of concrete transfer piping that will be crucial to the operation of the new cement receiving and distribution terminal located at the port. The 42’ sections of 10”, 14”, and 16” carbon steel transfer pipe will connect the various receiving, transfer, storage, and distribution systems at the facility. The piping will need to travel under an existing railway, which will require a rapid and highly coordinated shutdown effort.
“We are proud to commence construction of our first terminal in the United States in the Port of Providence,” said Jim Braselton, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Distribution for McInnis Cement. “Thanks to the partnerships we’ve developed with state and city officials, our high-quality product will be able to efficiently and dependably reach customers throughout New England – an area that currently and routinely in the past has had challenges with reliable supply.”
