Reliable Power for Riverdale Mills

Thriving in the manufacturing industry is a constant challenge for companies looking to manage production costs and decrease energy consumption, particularly as utility rates continue to increase. Wire mesh manufacturer Riverdale Mills Corporation is strategically offsetting some of their energy costs by installing a combined heat and power (CHP) system in its Northbridge, Massachusetts facility.

Riverdale Mills, which produces welded wire mesh for the marine, security, construction, and agriculture industries, has commissioned A/Z Corporation to serve as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor in charge of installing a 500 kW packaged CHP system in a sound attenuated area within Riverdale Mill’s existing 390,000 square foot facility. The unit is designed to operate in “island mode” and support manufacturing operations independent of the local energy grid, which is essential in the event of a prolonged utility outage.

The CHP system will decrease Riverdale Mills’ operating costs and the company’s dependence on local utility providers, and will further reduce the company’s carbon footprint. Riverdale already uses water from the local Blackstone River to generate a portion of its electricity and run its machines with hydroelectric power. Riverdale also uses natural gas fired diesel generators to heat the plant and generate additional electricity.
